The Ultimate Aussie Ice Block Turned Into a Boozy, Tropical Slushie
If you grew up smashing Frosty Fruits every summer, this cocktail is your nostalgia hit with a cheeky twist. It’s cold, bright, tropical and dangerously easy to drink – basically the grown-up version of your favourite ice block, now with vodka and a big burst of passionfruit.

This cocktail actually comes courtesy of my daughter, who decided that her favourite childhood Frosty Fruit needed a grown-up glow-up. One scorching afternoon she tossed a couple into the blender with vodka and Pasito “just to see what happens”… and the rest is history. Her experiment turned into the drink everyone now asks for — icy, tropical, nostalgic and just cheeky enough to feel like summer in a glass. One sip and you’ll know exactly why it stuck.
Why You’ll Love This Frozen Cocktail
- Pure Frosty Fruit nostalgia – in adults-only form
- Ice-cold, slushy texture perfect for scorching days
- Only 5 simple ingredients
- No fancy cocktail gear needed (Nutribullet, blender, Thermomix – all fine)
- Big tropical flavour from Pasito + fresh passionfruit
- Guaranteed crowd favourite
- Tastes like a $18 beach bar drink… but better
When Best To Serve These
These slushies shine anywhere sunshine, heat or fun is involved. Think backyard BBQs, pool days, girls’ night, Christmas chaos, or those “it’s 30°C and I might melt” afternoons. They’re quick, cheeky, refreshing – the kind of drink that disappears faster than you can blend another batch.

Variations To Try:
Keep this cocktail exactly as written, or mix it up:
- Swap vodka for gin or Bacardi
- Add frozen mango for a thicker, smoothie-style slushie
- A dash of Malibu = tropical magic
- Stir through fresh passionfruit (don’t blend it – seeds turn bitter)
- Add lime juice for extra tang

FAQ’s
Can I use different Frosty Fruit flavours?
Yes – Watermelon Slice works brilliantly.
Can I scale it for a party?
Absolutely. Multiply the ingredients and blend in batches. Serve straight away.
What alcohol works best?
Vodka keeps it clean and tropical, but gin, Bacardi or white rum all work.
Is there a non-alcoholic version?
Yep – skip the vodka and replace it with extra Pasito or lemonade for a kid-friendly slushie.
Why isn’t my cocktail slushy?
Usually not enough ice, or the base was too warm. Add extra ice and re-blend. (Never blend passionfruit pulp – it turns bitter.)
Can You Make Them Ahead of Time?
Not really – slushies are always best fresh. Make and serve immediately for the perfect icy texture.

Instructions
- Remove the Frosty Fruit ice blocks from their packaging and let them sit at room temperature for a few minutes to soften slightly (this will make it easier to to remove from their sticks).
- Remove Frosty Fruits from their sticks, place into a high speed blender along with the vodka, soft drink and ice cubes. Secure the lid on the blender and blend until all ingredients are smooth. You should have a slushy, icy consistency.
- Add the passionfruit pulp and stir into the cocktail mixture with a spoon.
- Pour the mixture between 2 chilled glasses. If you want to take it up a notch, garnish your cocktail with a fresh passionfruit half and a sprig of mint. It adds a beautiful touch and a hint of freshness to your drink. Enjoy 😉

Frosty Fruits (made by Peter’s) are an Aussie summer classic — fruity, refreshing and made with real fruit juice. You’ll find them in the ice-cream freezer at all major supermarkets, and often at servos, corner stores and takeaway shops. They’re the perfect base for this cocktail.

I tried Absolute Grapefruit vodka and it naturally tastes similar to Frosty Fruits. I’m not huge on sweet drinks so I was thinking to try this with Soda water and the Grapefruit Absolute rather than the Pasito. The mixed Frosty Fruit and passionfruit pulp should be enough sweetness for me, maybe even a little tart, but i’d like that.
Ohhh, grapefruit vodka, I will definitely have to give that a go as I love grapefruit! Sounds like a great combo with the soda water to bring down the sweetness. Let me know how it tasted! Thanks for the idea
