Greetings! I’m Kate, the face behind Feed Me Kate.
Thank you for stopping by and delving into my About Me page!
In life, I play the roles of a Mum, Partner, Food Blogger, and devoted Dog Lover, with an unwavering passion for all things FOOD!
My love affair with food traces its roots back to my childhood, where my Mum, a skilled and creative cook, ignited my cooking curiosity. The kitchen became my haven, whether it was helping prep for dinners, parties, celebrations, or crafting delectable cakes. That early exposure cultivated a profound love for food that has stayed with me throughout my life.
The idea of starting a food blog lingered in the back of my mind for years. Life, with its busy twists and turns, work demands, and the unexpected curveballs of a pandemic, often pushed this dream aside. Yet, with those challenges gradually fading into the background, I finally felt the time was ripe to embark on this foodie adventure!
All the photos on this blog are captured through the lens of my trusty iPhone 13 Pro Max. I’m eager to expand the experience by potentially sharing tutorial videos in the future. Stay tuned for more delicious content and thank you for being a part of my food-loving journey! ❤️
About my recipes!
Welcome to the world of Feed Me Kate, where my recipes span the globe, reflecting my easy-going, creative, and genuine approach to food.
I take pleasure in preparing meals predominantly from scratch, although I do occasionally incorporate a few time-saving shortcuts. When I come across an ingredient that is more convenient, efficient, cost-effective, or possesses a flavour profile that I find challenging to replicate, I’m not hesitant to include it in my cooking.
I incorporate readily available, everyday ingredients commonly found in major supermarkets for the majority of my recipes. Occasionally, I may introduce more distinctive elements, such as micro-greens or specialty shop find, though rest assured, I always strive to suggest easily accessible alternatives. Moreover, I am mindful of the rising cost of living, and I aim to create recipes that are budget-friendly, acknowledging the ongoing economic challenges.
In my repertoire, you’ll encounter a delightful array of modern classics, revamped dishes, comforting favourites, mood-boosting delights, soul-soothing creations, wholesome options, and the occasional indulgent treat. Above all, the common thread is that the recipes are accessible, flavourful, and downright delicious – suitable for anyone to whip up!
A glimpse into my Foodie career journey!
My love for food has always been so profound that I envisioned making it my career. Initially, thoughts of pursuing cheffing or becoming a home economics teacher danced in my mind. However, fate had other plans for me. I happened to secure a short-term position in a test kitchen for a bustling weekly magazine, initially handling kitchen duties like washing up after shoots and assisting with food prep. What was meant to be a brief stint of 2 weeks unexpectedly turned into a rewarding 20-year career!
Amidst this time span, life unfolded with its share of ‘real-life’ moments. While cherishing my role, I earned my qualification in home economics. I embraced motherhood, welcoming two wonderful children into the world. The journey also led me through the highs of marriage, the lows of divorce, and eventually finding a new partner, Rob (he is my biggest taste testing fan btw). Despite freelancing for various ‘Foodie’ endeavours, including publications and TV projects, my heart remained dedicated to the magazine.
Within the magazine world, my responsibilities encompassed recipe testing, recipe development, providing insights for books and cookbooks, and serving as a ‘Food Prep’ or ‘Home Ec’ person. In our parlance, this role involves shopping for and sourcing ingredients, preparing and cooking food for photography, collaborating with stylists and photographers, and handling the cleanup. Additionally, I had the privilege of contributing as an assistant food editor on several of the magazine’s esteemed cookbooks.
My Three Passions!
Cooking is undoubtedly a major love of mine, but there are three other pursuits that hold an equal place in my heart.
Gardening
Outside the kitchen, where I’m not engrossed in planning recipes or whipping up meals, you’ll discover me immersed in the world of gardening. It’s a passion that found its roots around two years ago when I relocated north, and I must say, I’m completely captivated.
The gratification derived from cultivating vegetables from seed is truly intoxicating. Witnessing the journey from planting a tiny seed, nurturing it, and eventually witnessing it transform into something edible is an utterly magnificent process.
Homegrown Vegetables, Herbs & Salad Shoots
Sourdough
My second passion lies in the intricate world of crafting Sourdough. It’s an art form characterised by a dynamic process that evolves with each creation. Making bread is an intricate dance with numerous variables at play. Everything from temperature and humidity to water quality, various flours and brands, personal technique, oven characteristics, and even the vessel or surface you use can influence the final result. The list is truly endless.
Yet, amid this complexity, I find immense joy in the process. There’s an undeniable satisfaction that comes with baking and savouring homemade bread – a pleasure that has led us to forgo supermarket bread for over 2 years now. I often share my creations as well, recognising there’s only so much bread one can consume. Yet, my enthusiasm for crafting sourdough remains unyielding.
My journey into sourdough began out of necessity, as this unique bread wasn’t readily available in our local area. It has been a significant learning curve, but a profoundly rewarding one. The marvel of homemade bread, with its distinct character and flavour, continues to be an irresistible force that I simply can’t resist. Home-made bread truly rocks!
My Canine Companions!
Meet Rosie & Ruby 🐾 🐕, the radiant lights in my life that I am utterly smitten with.
Rosie, a delightful Chiweenie, embodies the perfect blend of a miniature dachshund and a chihuahua. She exudes a beautiful nature, basks in the warmth of the sun, relishes tummy rubs, and finds ultimate comfort snuggled under the covers, preferably with Ruby by her side.
Ruby, a miniature dachshund, is a bundle of affection, neediness, protectiveness, and unwavering loyalty. She revels in kisses and cuddles, and she isn’t shy about demanding them when she feels it’s time for a little extra love, be it from Rosie, me, or any other human nearby!
Beyond their roles as cherished companions, both Rosie and Ruby excel as taste testers, always eager and willing to participate in the culinary adventures happening around them. 😊
Life without them? Unimaginable!
Let’s keep the conversation going… 👋🏻
